3/1/09 – My Beginning…

Well…I have always been athletic, but I definitely never thought that I would be attempting my first triathlon at this stage in my life!   About two years ago, I decided that a good way to motivate myself to get to the gym would be to sign up for a 5k road race…and it has progressed from there.  There are still times that it is difficult to squeeze in the time to exercise, but now I look forward to my work outs and I have realized the importance (for me) of setting goals to stay motivated.  .

A couple of months ago, I was talking to a friend when I was visiting family in Delaware and she told me about the IronGirl triathlon.  She told me it was a great event and encouraged me to sign up for the 2009 event.  At first, I was intimidated by the idea but it slowly grew on me and I actually got excited at the thought of completing a triathlon.   Here’s the funny part, not only did I sign up for the IronGirl but I added a second event and signed up for the Danskin SheROX triathlon which will actually take place earlier in the summer.   They are both sprint distance triathlons (the exact length can vary but as an example, for the IronGirl, that means a .62 mile swim, 17 1/2 mile bike ride and 3.4 mile run) and each event actually takes place in multiple locations across the country.  Here are the two that I signed up for:

  • Danskin SheROX     July 26, 2009 Webster, MA
  • IronGirl  August 23, 2009  Columbia, MD

That leaves me about 5 months before the first event.  It will take a fine balance to juggle training, work and all of the other things that keep me busy, but it should also be fun!!!   Join me on my journey…
